Cabinet Office Circulars

What is a Cabinet Office circular?

From time to time, the Cabinet Office issues circulars on issues which are of general interest to Ministers and departments. Cabinet Office circulars complement the Cabinet Manual and CabGuide, providing detailed guidance on central government processes. Circulars may be incorporated into the Manual or the Guide when the publications are updated.

The information from a number of Cabinet Office circulars was incorporated into the revised Cabinet Manual issued on 15 April 2008. The list of current circulars will be updated shortly.

The Cabinet Office has recently developed the CabGuide website to replace the Step by Step Guide to Cabinet and Cabinet committee procedures. There are many references to the old Step by Step Guide in the Cabinet Office circulars below. While the links in the circulars have been updated and will now take you to the relevant information in the CabGuide, we have not updated the references to the Step by Step Guide publication itself.

Note: this is not a comprehensive list of Cabinet Office circulars. It lists those current circulars that are significant and publicly available.
