This class of outputs provides for the general upkeep of the two Government Houses, in Wellington and Auckland, including the maintenance and security of the buildings and the landscaping, development and maintenance of the gardens and grounds. It includes the maintenance of the other residences and buildings associated with the two Government Houses.

Preserving and enhancing the Buildings and Grounds

| Achievement | Daily reports were submitted on urgent works, weekly reports on major development contracts and monthly on routine maintenance. Quarterly financial reports were also submitted to senior management. |
| Key Task | Prepare, negotiate and let well specified contracts for maintenance work, security systems, and gardening to approved contractors. | |
| Achievement | The North Terrace project was tendered in January 2000 and work commenced in late February. Exterior painting was tendered and work on the North face of the main building commenced mid-April 2000. |
| Key Task | Monitor on-site contractor performances against the approved specification. | |
| Achievement | On site contractors were regularly monitored for efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction. All projects were completed on time and within budget. An assessment of long term service providers for performance and value for money was commenced during the period. |
