This class of outputs includes the provision of financial, administrative, communications, travel and advisory services to the Office of Governor-General and domestic and personal services for the Governor-General. It also includes conducting a range of official functions, investitures and receptions at Government House and hosting state and other dignitaries.

Support for the Governor-General

| Achievement | 236 official functions and receptions were held at the Government Houses in Wellington and Auckland. These occasions included investitures, award ceremonies, presentation of credentials ceremonies, state welcomes for visiting heads of state, charity and community functions, the swearing-in of the new Ministry and Speaker, official calls, visits by groups and open days. In total, almost 29,000 people visited the two houses during the year. |
| Key Task | In 1999/00 ensure good coordination of the Governor-General's programme with special attention to APEC 99, associated visits by Heads of State, America's Cup Regatta and other millennium year events. | |
| Achievement | His Excellency received President Clinton at Government House Auckland and hosted separate state welcomes and lunches for the President of China, Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping, and the President of Korea and Mrs Kim Dae-Jung, at Government House Wellington. In addition, the summit meeting between President Clinton and President Jiang was held at Government House Auckland. His Excellency attended the America's Cup Opening Ceremony and one of the America's Cup races. He also attended the powhiri to welcome visitors to Gisborne for the city's millennium events and hosted a reception at Te Papa Tongarewa on New Year's morning. |

| Achievement | Arrangements were made and briefings provided to the Governor-General to enable him to attend 239 separate official engagements throughout New Zealand including the State Opening of Parliament, the investing of one of the last KNZM, Sir John Turei, on his marae in Taneatua and participating in the Olympic Torch Relay. In addition, the Governor-General made official visits to New Caledonia and Fiji in August 1999. |
