This class of outputs provides for the Crime Prevention Unit to: advise the Government on crime prevention; to plan, coordinate and monitor the crime prevention strategy; and to build partnerships with Government agencies, local authorities and communities which will allow the development of, and support for, specific crime prevention responses.

Inter-agency crime prevention strategy
| Key Task | Identify gaps between agencies' crime prevention outputs. Where appropriate, reduce policy/output overlaps and promote integrated operational activities. | |
| Achievement | CPU has worked with other agencies to identify policy and service gaps and to promote better integration of services. For example, joint ventures with the Police and Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand, have resulted in practical operational guidelines for burglary prevention and alcohol accords. |

A round of new project proposals has been considered. Funding decisions have given emphasis to projects that contribute to reducing Maori and Pacific youth offending and family violence. |

| Achievement | CPU has developed and distributed (in collaboration with the Police and other agencies) practical methodologies for reducing repeat victimisation, particularly burglary victimisation. |
Safer Community Councils (SCC) and Community Projects
| Key Task | Develop and maintain a strategy for the management of the growth of the SCC programme. | |
| Achievement | Growth and development of the SCCs has been managed according to agreed plan - new SCCs have been established in Franklin, Waikato, and Hauraki districts. |
| Key Task | Provide advice and, where appropriate, SCC set-up training and assistance to targeted local government and community groups, including Maori and Pacific peoples. | |
| Achievement | SCCs have been provided assistance to establish and the majority of new SCCs have completed their initial community profile and strategic plan within eight months of an establishment grant being paid. |
| Key Task | Ensure all local SCC crime prevention key documents contribute to the Crime Prevention Strategy and incorporate relevant performance standards. | |

New information-collection and performance reporting systems have been developed and implemented, in consultation with SCCs, to reduce compliance costs on community partner agencies. |

of new projects has been developed for 2000/01 with particular emphasis
