Ownership Objectives


In 1999/2000 the department has set itself the goal of achieving the following objectives, enhancing both its capability and performance.

Departmental Self Review

The department will complete a self review of its functions and activities and how those are organised and coordinated in order to enhance the performance of the department in meeting the needs of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Milestones

  1. Each unit of the department will have completed its self review of functions and activities by 30 September 1999.
  2. Implementation of approved review recommendations for the department will be completed by 31 December 1999.

Performance Management Systems

The department will complete the implementation, for the 1999/2000 year, of a comprehensive performance management system designing to clarify its objectives and enhance its overall performance.

Milestones

  1. By 30 August 1999, for all staff and managers, performance agreements or agreed objectives will be completed.
  2. By 31 July 2000, performance reviews for all staff will be completed to the required standard.
  3. By 30 June 2000, managers will have held at least four quarterly performance discussions with each of their staff.

Personal Development Programmes

The department will complete the development of a formal process of personal skills and career development of all DPMC managers which will also address our succession requirements.

  1. By 31 December 1999, the department's succession planning will be re-evaluated and the process for identifying and prioritising skill development for DPMC managers agreed.

(b) By 30 June 2000, ensure that all managers have completed personal development objectives set for 1999/2000.

Equal Employment Opportunities

The department will review its current EEO programme to ensure that achievable and measurable outcome oriented goals are in place.

Milestone

  1. By 30 June 2000 ensure that short and long term goals are being achieved against the EEO plan.

Y2K Compliance

The department will ensure that its plans to mitigate any disasters arising from Y2K information technology issues are robust, well developed and fully tested.

Milestones

  1. By 31 July, 1999 resolution of all outstanding technical issues across the departments networks.
  2. By 30 August 1999 complete and fully test business continuity and disaster recovery processes to ensure the department's critical supply chain is protected.
  3. By 31 March review all issues arising from the department's management of the Y2K change.
