The following awards were instituted under New Zealand Royal Warrants. Those marked with an asterisk are awarded under New Zealand Regulations issued under British Royal Warrants, and are being reviewed.
New Zealand War Service Medal 1939-45
New Zealand Operational Service Medal (instituted 2002)
New Zealand Service Medal 1946-49 (instituted 1995)
Vietnam Medal (1968-73) (An identical medal was issued under an Australian Royal Warrant).
New Zealand General Service Medal (instituted 1992, in silver for war-like operations and in bronze for non-warlike (peacekeeping) operations, with appropriate clasps).
New Zealand General Service Medal (instituted 2002, with a different ribbon
for each operation).
New Zealand Special Service Medal (instituted 2002, with a different ribbon
for each specific service).
The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal
Instituted by The Queen by Royal Warrant dated 9 February 1990. The medal was
awarded only during 1990 to 3,632 selected persons in recognition of the
contribution they had made to some aspect of New Zealand life, especially
the various 1990 celebrations. The medal was designed by Phillip O’Shea,
LVO, New Zealand Herald of Arms Extraordinary and struck in bronze-gilt metal
by the Royal Australian Mint. The reverse bears the official 1990 symbol,
a kotuku, white heron, designed by Fred Graham and Roy Good. The medal was
accompanied by a certificate bearing the signatures of The Queen, Governor-General
and Prime Minister.
The New Zealand Suffrage Centennial Medal 1993
Instituted by The Queen by Royal Warrant dated 1 July 1993. The Medal was only
awarded in 1993 to 546 selected persons in recognition of their contribution
to the rights of women in New Zealand or to women’s issues in New Zealand
or to both. The medal was designed by Phillip O’Shea, LVO, New Zealand Herald
of Arms Extraordinary and struck in bronze, with an antique finish, by the
Royal Australian Mint. The medal was accompanied by a certificate bearing
the signatures of The Queen, Governor-General and Prime Minister.

In 1995 the Government struck a special commemorative medallion (which is not designed to be worn) for issue to members of Team New Zealand and others who contributed to the America’s Cup victory at San Diego, USA, on 13 May 1995. Seventy-nine medallions were issued.
