DPMC Organisation Privacy Statement
How we collect personal information:
- The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) does not have any specific statutory powers in relation to information gathering. Most information gathering therefore will either be publicly available or voluntarily provided. There may be some situations where information about an individual is provided by third parties in relation to things like employment references or nominations for awards. This means that information gathering (including about individuals) by DPMC is subject to standard legal limits relating to privacy, access to private property, and the privacy/security of communications by individuals.
How we use personal information:
- Most of the personal information DPMC collects comes from our engagement with the public and with other agencies (both Government sector and private). This includes:
- managing various appointments processes (both for appointment to various internal and statutory positions, as well as receipt of nominations for New Zealand Royal Honours),
- receiving submissions or other consultation documents about legislation we administer or projects we have been tasked with,
- managing responses to various oversight inquiries, and otherwise in our engagements with the community through our website, events, surveys, newsletters or discussions with community groups.

- You may browse and access information contained within this website without providing any personal information.
- If you provide information (including personal information) to us (e.g. through the general enquiry form), we will only use that information:
- to administer, evaluate, improve, and secure our ICT systems, our website, and the information our website contains (ICT and website purposes);
- to improve our services;
- to action or respond to the information provided and communicate with you; and
- where such disclosure is required or permitted by law
- We will keep any such information secure and may share it with third parties to the extent necessary for the services they provide to us related to the ICT and website purposes.
- We have software to track which pages are visited, to help us identify the most popular areas of our website. The information is combined so we can't identify individual visitors.
