Order in Council#
An Order in Council is a legal instrument used by the New Zealand government to implement decisions that need legal force. The Executive Council advises the Governor-General to make Orders in Council. Apart from Acts of Parliament, Orders in Council are the main method by which the government implements decisions that need legal force.
Role of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Review Panel#
The function of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Review Panel was to provide advice on request to both the Minister and the relevant Minister in relation to Orders in Council that may be required for the purpose of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011.
All draft Orders in Council had to be reviewed by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Review Panel before they were recommended under section 71 of the Act.
